Our 2023 event is similar to previous years featuring a community BBQ, with space for participants to engage with organizations & resources from around Langley. Our goal is to generate awareness while simultaneously remembering those we’ve lost.

Static memorial displays of hearts & flags representing lives lost will be setup throughout the community during the days leading up to overdose awareness day. The event will take place on August 31st at Douglas Park Spirit Square.

At 6pm on August 31st, we will gather at Douglas Park for a memorial & awareness walk through downtown Langley City. Participants are encouraged to design and bring their own signs of awareness or protest.

At Douglas Park, a community BBQ will be hosted by the Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society. Community leaders, peers and loved ones will share from the stage. Community agencies, educators and resources will be available throughout the park. Free naloxone training and kits, as well as drug testing will also be available.

Stage activities will include an opening welcome, a story of lived experience, music & Indigenous drummers.

A candlelight vigil will be held at dusk.

Overdose affects everyone. From grieving families to spontaneous first responders, the impacts of overdose are far-reaching and fall indiscriminately.

Sign up to the International Overdose Awareness Day newsletter and become part of the global movement to end overdose.
