International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember those who have died, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind. The campaign raises awareness of overdose—one of the world’s worst public health crises—and stimulates action and discussion about evidence-based overdose prevention and drug policy.
This year’s IOAD campaign theme is “Together We Can.” While every individual action matters greatly, coming together as an international community creates powerful collective action. Collective action moves us with greater speed toward our shared goal of preventing, and ultimately, ending all overdoses. This year highlights the strength of coming together and standing in support of those connected to the tragedy of overdose.
Collective action ends overdose. Join us at Westlake Park on August 29th, 1-3pm!
– There will be a short presentation at 1:30pm
– Staff will be distributing the overdose antidote Narcan and providing training.
– Treatment in Motion staff will be onsite, available to sign people up for treatment.
We come together for our communities. For people who use drugs and those who don’t. For heartbroken friends and family members of lost loved ones. For activists who fight for sorely needed policy reform. For healthcare and harm reduction workers. For tireless advocates. Overdose can affect anyone, and we encourage you to remember the tenacity of our community and lean into the power that we can have when we work together.
