The Nelson community will be marking International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug 31 at Lakeside Park.

People can attend the event from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Rotary Shelter. It will be hosted by ANKORS, Rural Empowered Drug Users’ Network (REDUN), Nelson Fentanyl Task Force and other organizational partners to honour those who have lost their lives and reduce the stigma.

“For 25 years, Aug. 31 has been a day of remembrance of the lives lost to overdose. Please take a moment to attend this event in solidarity with others to keep the memories alive and to give strength that the love will never stop,” said Matt Wheating in a statement from REDUN.
