The Cowichan Community Action Team (CAT) will be hosting an IOAD event on Wednesday August 31 from 11:30 am- 4:30 pm at Charles Hoey Park (train station) in Duncan. This event will include:
– information/resource booths from community outreach partners (see logos on the attached event poster)
-peer-led Naloxone training and distribution of free Naloxone kits
– live music on the topics of addiction and mental health
-a vigil tent (with battery-operated candles, poems of remembrance, photos of lost loved ones)
-a peer art display on the theme of harm reduction
(-a table for people to paint memorial rocks )
-awareness: signs with statistics to educate the public
-community speakers
-resources: at all booths (specific to that organization’s services) and grief resource guide at the info tent; a certified trauma-informed counselor will be available for people who would like someone to talk to)
-House of Commons petition for a Health-Based Approach to the Toxic Drug Crisis (continuing Bill C-216 advocacy momentum for a future national bill)
-memorial rock painting table
-free fry bread and Starbucks coffee

The overdose epidemic is everyone's problem, but it's being left to a small group to step up.
