International Overdose Awareness Day 2026
This Sunday, 31 August, marks International Overdose Awareness Day, a time to remember those whose lives have been lost to drug overdose, to acknowledge the grief of families and friends, and to remind ourselves that overdose deaths can be prevented.
Pictured are some of the staff of the Cornmarket Project, a part of Wexford Local Development, who have been trained in the administration of naloxone, a life-saving medication that can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
So far in 2026, Cornmarket Project staff have administered naloxone on five occasions in response to an overdose, helping to prevent the potential loss of life.
For us, this highlights why making naloxone widely available, and ensuring people have the confidence and training to use it, is so important.
On International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember those we have lost, stand alongside those affected by overdose, and continue to do everything we can to prevent further lives being lost.
Time to Remember. Time to Act.
