Volunteers used purple ribbons to tie hundreds of pairs of shoes to the railing of the Burrard Bridge on Sunday morning, in preparation for International Overdose Awareness Day.

Each pair had a small note attached to them, highlighting the thousands of British Columbians who have died from overdose since a public health emergency was declared in 2016.
