HIPS and The Chosen Few will be jointly hosting International Overdose Awareness Day to honor and remember the lives of those we’ve lost to overdose. It will take place at Marvin Gaye Park on Saturday, August 31st from 12-6pm.
The event will include an informational session and community conversation on opioids, harm reduction, drug treatment, and the overdose crisis in DC from 1-3pm (doors open at 12:30pm). This portion of the event will feature two panels of speakers, including community partners and stakeholders, as well as informational materials, naloxone training, and free naloxone for anyone interested.
The event will also feature speakers who have been personally impacted by the overdose crisis and a memorial wall to remember those we’ve lost. We welcome anyone who has lost a loved one to overdose to contribute to the memorial wall. Additionally, the event will have a community cookout beginning at 3pm, live DJed music, shirts from The Chosen Few, and art supplies.
Please follow the Facebook event page for updates and additional information as the event draws nearer.
