An opportunity to bring Jefferson County residents and leaders together to elevate the conversation about preventing the number one cause of death for Americans under 50: drug overdose.

Join as we discuss how to recognize and respond to an overdose address the stigma people who use drugs face when they’re trying to get healthier. We’ll memorialize those we’ve lost to overdose and provide information on how to access treatment, recovery support and harm reduction services so we can prevent more needless deaths.

The Harm Reduction Action Center will be recognizing Overdose Awareness Day with an action-packed event in collaboration with our community partners. We will meet at HRAC (231 E. Colfax Ave) at 2:00pm SHARP on Friday, August 30.

Once assembled, we will march to Denver Health (6th and Bannock) raising a ruckus for those we have lost, and continue to lose, to overdoses in our community. Folks should bring their own signs. Upon our arrival at Denver Health, folks are invited to gather for a visual memorial and a short speaker. Water and some seating will be provided. This event will be ASL interpreted. We expect to be finished around 4pm. Folks are welcome to leave from Denver Health or return to the HRAC after as a group.

If folks haven’t already, they are welcome to bring a 5×7 picture of their loved one that passed away due to overdose and we will add them to our overdose memorial wall in our agency.

For those unable to attend and participate with us (and/or anyone looking at this event post), there will be social media armchair activism activities that we will ask for you to spread awareness on that day. Stop the silence, join us.
