My son, Jarrod, died on Jun1, 2019 on his 14th day of treatment inside a 54 year old treatment center in Nashville, Tn. A 10 year journeyman Electrician, he left a beautiful 8 year old daughter and 3.5 year old son and wife. Illicit fentanyl made its way into the center by a former patient that he did not even know. Another 33 year old patient, who had been in and out of treatment facilities, shared the drug wit my son who had just finished a 5 day detox only nine days earlier. This was his first inpatient treatment. He died in what should have been a safe, secured environment. It was a tragic loss to our community and family. I am advocating for more safeguards, better and quick read tests at all hospitals and treatment center, better security and removal of hazards such as hospital staff phones that patients can use in making contact with dealers. With only 10 percents of addicts getting treatment, no one deserves to die inside such a facility.

Overdose affects everyone. From grieving families to spontaneous first responders, the impacts of overdose are far-reaching and fall indiscriminately.
