In light of the recent closures of the Fred Victor Safe Consumption Site (SCS) & Moss Park Community Treatment Site (CTS), the Moss Park community are feeling the ramifications of the closures which are contributing to fear and anxiety. With these recent events in this unprecedented political climate, the Parkdale Queen West LAUNCH team have put together a public event in Moss Park’s park for the Moss Park community on August 31st, from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The event will be hosted in Moss Park, on Shuter St, right next to the tennis courts and baseball diamond.
Along with Parkdale Queen West, we are collaborating with the local Moss Park organizations, such as:
PASAN
Regent Park Community Health Centre
South Riverdale Community Health Centre
Street Health
Sherbourne Health
Street Haven
The Neighbourhood Group (TNG)
Our goal for this event is to help bring the Moss Park community together!
We will have various tables for food, water, activities, and programming. We will also have a large memorial banner and memorial area for the community to remember those we have lost. The Parkdale Queen West team have also prepared letter of advocacy templates that the community can read, signed, and sent to levels of government. These letters of advocacy will speak to the loss of the various SCS’s in our city and the need to bring them back. The letters will outline current data & evidence on the rising number of overdoses & preventable loss of life.
Along with this event, here are a few items of interest:
-All of our organizations have also helped secure the CN tower to change their lights purple on August 31 to commemorate IOAD for Toronto.
-We have invited and confirmed the attendance of City Councillor Chris Moise.
-Regent Park Community Health Centre will be hosting an IOAD march at their site (465 Dundas St E) on August 31st at 10:00 AM and will be marching towards our Moss Park event by 11:00 AM.
With this, we would welcome anyone to join us on this day. Hope to see you there!
