International Overdose Awareness Day Walk
August 31, 2026 | 5:00 PM
Love and Unity Resurrection Assembly
296 West Main Ave, Taylorsville, NC 28681

Join us for a community walk of remembrance, awareness, and hope.

This event is designed to honor lives lost to overdose, support families who continue to carry grief, and stand with individuals still fighting for recovery. Every step represents a name, a story, and a life that mattered.

This is more than a walk. It is a public statement that Alexander County will not look away from overdose, addiction, grief, or recovery.

The evening will include a brief opening program, featured guest speaker Shanea Clancy, participation from local community partners, a remembrance walk, and time for connection after the walk.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early, check in, connect with volunteers, and take part in the remembrance area before the program begins.

What to Expect

The event will begin with check-in and gathering time. Guests will have an opportunity to sign in, receive event information, visit resource tables, and prepare for the walk.

The opening program will include a welcome, the purpose of International Overdose Awareness Day, a moment of remembrance, and a featured message from Shanea Clancy. Local voices, including community leaders and justice-impacted advocates, will help frame the importance of prevention, recovery, reentry support, and community responsibility.

After the opening program, participants will walk together as a sign of unity. This is not a race. It is a walk of remembrance, reflection, and commitment.

Following the walk, guests may return for fellowship, connection, resource sharing, and next-step opportunities to support ongoing community work.
