Community leaders in Scottsville and Allen County gathered Monday to recognize Aug. 31 as Overdose Awareness Day, bringing attention to the impact of substance use and overdose in the community.

The proclamation signing was held at the Old Allen County Courthouse and included Scottsville Mayor David Burch, Allen County Judge-Executive Dennis Harper and VH Dream Center Executive Director Amy Payne.

Payne said the day provides an opportunity to remember people who have died from overdose, raise awareness about the crisis and remind those struggling with addiction that recovery is possible.
