Overdose Awareness Day is an international event celebrated annually across the world. This year Cornell Scott Hill Health Center (CSHHC) is partnering with both the New Haven Health Department (NHHD) & the Quinnipiack Valley Health District (QVHD) with the goal of expanding education and outreach to a larger portion of our community. Scheduled for Tuesday, August 31st from 12PM-6PM the Arts of Hope Health & Healing themed event will utilize different forms of art to capture some of the expressive outlets utilized by those impacted by substance use. Vendors representing various community agencies will be stationed throughout the green along with art stations, a sculpture displaying the signatures of those who’ve passed, yoga, live music, screening of locally produced film fentanyl madness, and more. The goal of the event is to raise awareness on how the opioid crisis is impacting our immediate community, share stories, spread hope and support to all involved. Naloxone (Narcan) the opioid overdose reversal medication will be distributed throughout the day paired with training to prevent future fatal overdoses. The evening will commence with a candle light vigil to celebrate the lives lost to date to a drug overdose.
