Marion residents are invited to gather for Overdose Awareness Day with a public event focused on remembrance, prevention and community connection.
The event is scheduled for Aug. 31 from 1-4 p.m. in the parking lot behind Safe Harbor Marion Center, 156 N. Main St., with indoor activities planned in case of rain.
The Marion gathering will include resource tables, speakers and activities designed to honor individuals affected by overdose and support those seeking help.
Organizers also plan a memorial butterfly release at no cost, where participants can recognize loved ones during the program. Names of those being remembered will be read aloud during the ceremony, according to the announcement.
Other planned activities include a “chalk the walk” display, food and refreshments and opportunities for community connection.
