YCNHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Lynchburg city leaders, police, first responders and families came together Monday for Overdose Awareness Day, remembering those lost and urging people facing addiction to seek help.

For Crystal May, the day hit close to home. She lost her son Christian to fentanyl in 2024.

“Christian had a heart of gold,” said May. “He was a phenomenal person.”

In the last 4 years, Crystal says she’s witnessed firsthand the way Lynchburg has stepped up to overcome overdoses.

The conversation around Overdose Awareness will continue as the Walk for Recovery returns to Miller Park Thursday at 5 p.m. Community leaders say everyone is invited to attend.
