The Waterloo Region Integrated Drugs Strategy’s Overdose Prevention Work Group, is hosting their sixth annual International Overdose Awareness Day Events. These events are meant to help bring attention to International Overdose Awareness Day, observed annually on August 31st, as a day of remembrance for individuals who have died from drug overdose/poisoning, and to acknowledge the grief felt by family, friends, and communities that are left behind.
The events will include a memorial activity for those grieving a loved one due to overdose, and the guest speakers will be those impacted by an overdose or have had family or friends that have either experienced an overdose or died from overdose/drug poisoning. There will also be information and support about harm reduction services and programs, including resources on support for problematic substance use in Waterloo Region, and access to information about overdose prevention, including naloxone training.
These community events will also include pizza, light refreshments and an opportunity for individuals and families to meet the community partners and community members on the Overdose Prevention Work Group. The Sanguen Health Van will provide on-site access to harm reduction supplies.

Overdose affects everyone. From grieving families to spontaneous first responders, the impacts of overdose are far-reaching and fall indiscriminately.

Sign up to the International Overdose Awareness Day newsletter and become part of the global movement to end overdose.
