The purpose of Candle of Remembrance focus on families gathering at candlelight and prayers for Mothers, Sisters, Spouses who lost their loved ones due to psychoactive substances and socially acceptable substance overdose. The event intersects International Overdose Awareness Day with South Africa’s Women’s Month provides a platform for healing and advocacy, providing message of support and strength the women left behind through prayer meetings, social gathering and events aiming to remember, honour and pay tributes to the departed. All events will be held in different settings lighting purple and silver candles in collaboration with all sectors in communities. Events will be held from the 1st of August until the 31st of August 2026
