The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services will hold an International Overdose Awareness Day remembrance event on the grounds of the State Capitol on August 31, 2022. Elected officials, local community providers, and advocates will come together to participate in the event and a press conference featuring individuals with lived experience and other stakeholders will be held. 1,513 white flags will be planted on the Capitol lawn to honor those who lost their lives to overdose in the state in the previous year. Mobile harm reduction resource vans will be present, and the Remembrance Quilts (https://portal.ct.gov/DMHAS/Initiatives/DMHAS-Initiatives/The-Remembrance-Quilt) will be displayed.

The overdose epidemic is everyone's problem, but it's being left to a small group to step up.
