The Nova Scotia Grief Alliance is a partnership between Nova Scotia Hospice and Palliative Care Association and Nova Scotia Health to support increasing Grief Literacy, Education and Networking across Nova Scotia. This event is open to anyone in the Grief Space who provides support, interest or care with people who are Grieving. You do not need to be a resident of Nova Scotia to register.

Rune Black, MSW, RSW, End of Life Doula & NSHPCA Community Grief Facilitator will be Moderating and presenting with Marcus Greatheart MD, RSW, in a live event on August 31, 2026 to discuss “Remaining Human while working in Systems where Grief is a Constant Companion”. Frontline workers who support people affected by substance use and overdose are surrounded by grief, yet we rarely have opportunities to talk about it. Some grief follows death. Some comes from witnessing suffering, repeated overdoses, fractured relationships or knowing that someone remains at high risk despite our best efforts.
This interactive conversation will explore the many forms grief can take in harm reduction and frontline care, how it shapes the way we work and care, and what helps us remain compassionate without losing ourselves. Rather than a traditional lecture, this session will create space for discussion, reflection and shared learning grounded in participants’ experiences.

There will be 2-3 bonus pre-recorded sessions that will be released to Registrants throughout the month of September with local Nova Scotia Harm Reduction leaders and voices to discuss how Grief intersects with Harm Reduction, community and frontline supports.
