Pause, Test, Prevent – International Overdose Awareness Day Campaign

Pause, Test, Prevent is a co-produced campaign focused on raising awareness of overdose prevention, harm reduction and the importance of access to naloxone.

International Overdose Awareness Day takes place on 31 August. As this falls on the Summer Bank Holiday in 2026, we will be taking our campaign into different community locations throughout the following week, creating opportunities for people to come together, learn about overdose prevention and harm reduction, and access information about naloxone.

As part of the campaign, we will also take time to remember and honour those we have lost to overdose and acknowledge the ripple effect these losses can have on families, friends and communities.

The campaign will be shaped through co-production and will provide opportunities for members of the public to contribute through recovery stories, music, art and other creative activities. We want to create spaces that encourage conversation, reduce stigma and promote messages of compassion, awareness and prevention.

Through Pause, Test, Prevent, we aim to raise awareness, challenge stigma, promote harm reduction and help prevent future overdose deaths, while ensuring that those who have been lost are remembered with dignity and compassion.
