EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) — Eau Claire County is marking Overdose Awareness Day by placing 139 purple flags outside the Eau Claire County Government Center, honoring residents lost to overdoses between 2018 and 2025.
Of those deaths, 96 were opioid-related.
Fentanyl-related overdose is the leading cause of death among Wisconsin residents ages 25 to 54, according to a recent study.
“Overdose Awareness Day is really a time to pause and remember our community members that we have lost,” said Sarah Dillivan-Pospisil, a public health specialist with the Eau Claire City-County Health Department. “These are our friends, our family members, our coworkers and our neighbors.”
