In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, the City of Easthampton
will hold a candlelight vigil on Monday August 28th, 2023 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Millside Park, 2 Ferry St., Easthampton MA. Hosted by the Easthampton Public Health Department, Learn To Cope West, and DART, this event aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of drug-related death. The vigil will remember those who have met with death or permanent injury due to drug overdose, as well as acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends. Resource tables with information on grief support, recovery services, and health and wellness will be
available, including access to free Narcan to reverse opioid overdose. This important day of remembrance emphasizes that no one ever needs to feel shame or disgrace because of a drug overdose and that addiction and recovery resources can save lives.
Luminary bags will be offered at the vigil and will be displayed at Millside Park. If you would like a
luminary bag to decorate, we ask that you bring a canned good to weigh down the bag. If you would like to pick up luminary bags or drop off canned goods in advance of the vigil, please stop at Learn To Cope West, 116 Pleasant St #147, Easthampton MA. or call 413-203-1264. All canned goods collected will be donated to the Easthampton Community Center.
Please consider bringing picture(s) of lost loved ones to display during the vigil.
The vigil will also include music, and guest speakers, and will conclude with a candle-lighting ceremony.
