Join the West Side Heroin-Opioid Task Force (WSHOTF), for its annual International Overdose Awareness Day Community Resource and Remembrance Event.
With our theme for 2023, “Recognizing those who go unseen,” we honor the people whose lives have been altered by fatal overdoses. They are the family and friends grieving the loss of a loved one. We say to our brothers, sisters, and siblings: #weseeyou.
This year on August 31, let’s acknowledge and support the people in our communities who go unrecognized by raising awareness of the hidden impacts of overdose.
By promoting education of overdose response, and motivating change.
Our time to act is now!
The WSHTF is dedicated to expanding its reach to educate more residents on how to save lives when they recognize an overdose.
That reach has produced 3 Task Force workgroups dedicated to enhancing harm reduction efforts:
· Housing workgroup dedicated to ensuring people who use drugs have access to affordable housing and ending homelessness.
· Fentanyl workgroup dedicated through collaboration, education, and innovation, to identify new testing methods and strategies; increase fentanyl testing accuracy to prevent deaths from new adulterants in street drugs. We are dedicated to preserving the lives and health of our communities.
CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) workgroup dedicated to working in coalition with stakeholders to promote the health and dignity of all individuals and communities affected negatively by drug use. The CTA workgroup is focused on CTA travel, advocating for Narcan and/or Naloxone supply availability for CTA staff and the public on all transportation vehicles. The group will advocate for and provide training for the CTA employees and the public.

INTERNATIONAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS
DAY OF ACTION – August 31, 2023
CTA WORKGROUP:
The Workgroup has assembled a group of 10 volunteers to ride the CTA train for 3 hours on International Overdose Awareness Day 2023 to educate the public on how Narcan and Naloxone on CTA can save lives.
Volunteers will debrief the day of action at the Resource Fair and Remembrance Event – join the conversation.

Overdose affects everyone. From grieving families to spontaneous first responders, the impacts of overdose are far-reaching and fall indiscriminately.

Sign up to the International Overdose Awareness Day newsletter and become part of the global movement to end overdose.
