Overdose Awareness Day 2026: Call to Action at Parliament House

In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, QuIVAA is hosting an event Parliament House in Brisbane to honour lives lost to overdose, support those impacted, and highlight urgent policy and health reform needs in Queensland. We have been working with community to make a quilt in the lead up to this event, to gather our stories and our strength in order to advocate for change. We will be presenting the finished quilt at the event.

Event details: International Overdose Awareness Day Memorial
When: Monday 31 August 2026 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Where: Parliament House, Brisbane (entry via George St visitor entrance)
Who: Open event. Representatives from QuIVAA, QuIHN, The Loop, QNADA, peers with lived experience, families impacted by overdose, health professionals, and policymakers will be present.

This public event will include acknowledgment of country and community, speeches from Lived – Living Experience leaders, and the presentation of key recommendations from the plan to Members of Parliament.
