BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Aug. 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day, bringing awareness to overdose survivors and reducing the stigma of overdoses.

The day is not only for recognizing those who have survived an overdose, but also those who have died from one.

“We do have a lot of individuals throughout Illinois and the country who have overdosed and been successfully reversed. So this is a day celebrating that and also remembering people that we have lost to overdose,” said Randi Derrig, community relations coordinator at Chestnut Health Systems.
