The 5th Annual event to raise awareness and remember victims will be held in Atlantic City and aims to prevent future overdose deaths by ending the stigma. Master of Ceremonies is ACMike Lopez and this year’s venue has plenty of free parking and a playground for kids. Stand Up for Recovery is the theme and weapon against the silence and shame that has allowed the stigma to persist. Experiences will be shared and a pledge to uphold a Recovery Bill of Rights will take place which outlines a set of principles and practices that are often alluded because of the stigma. Elected officials and candidates for office will be invited to join family and friends of loved ones lost to overdose and take the Bill of Rights pledge, as an act of respect for those who have lost lives to the opioid epidemic and paving the road to ending future suffering. The facts of the man made opioid epidemic will be shared with testimonies from family members impacted. The vigil will include the reading of each life lost (submitted by loved ones) in a candlelight ceremony. The annual Recovery Community Award will also be presented to 2020 recipient, Susan Long, founder and executive director of Angels in Motion.
