Please join us on this year’s International Overdose Awareness Day to remember the lives of those lost to preventable drug poisoning, and to protest the do-nothing attitude being embraced by such Maine legislators as Rep. Patty Hymanson. This event has the potential to turn into a more happy and hopeful event- a solemn remembrance followed by a celebration of the Maine legislature’s forward movement… But we will see within the coming weeks if they choose to support science or stigma… life or death. If they choose to support stigma and death, then the OD Vigil will be followed by a protest against Maine and municipal policies that are killing People Who Use Drugs (PWUD).

To raise attention to the need to prevent and create awareness about drug overdose.

A local band, Sanctuary Blues Band will provide entertainment while many supporting partners will be set up to provide information regarding the resources they provide related to drug overdose for the families who have been affected by it.

A few individuals will bravely share their stories to help make our community aware that it happens right here and what we can learn from their experiences.

We plan to acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of drug overdose by handing out carnations in memory of their loved ones.

MATT stands for Managing Addiction Through Teamwork. The Overdose Awareness Walk is our biggest fundraiser of the year – This is the second year we have invited like minded local agencies and foundations that work hard to help manage problems caused by addiction, and share what they have to offer to the community. Come walk with us to remember those who have lost their lives to overdose and support those with lives affected by substance use. Walk to stop the stigma. Walk to feel connected.

Rallying together encourages people to feel more connected. Addiction is a health issue, NOT a moral issue. Stigma won’t obstruct progress once we show there is no shame in an individual’s struggle against substance use disorders. We fight to end the stigma in hopes of ending the losses.

Each year we lose thousands of people from drug overdose. Some survive, but suffer a permanent injury with devastating impact to their families and friends. Since our event last year, many more loved ones have died leaving families and friends grieving from great loss and despair.

Overdose Awareness Day provides an opportunity for us to reflect on practical ways to prevent overdose in our community. Overdose is preventable. Knowing the real facts about drugs and what to do when you see someone experiencing an overdose DOES save lives. Our overdose day event aims to educate our communities about drugs and offer help and support that you may not know are available to you and your loved one.

The Straleys, Rhodes and Brown families invite you to come for a evening of education. We want you to understand the signs of addiction and overdose. We choose to help other parents and families in memory of our children Leah Straley, Teri Rhodes and Christopher Brown.

Last year’s event brought in an estimated 150-200 folks who came seeking help, understanding and support. Numerous agencies will be on hand to help in all areas related to addiction, and resources available that you may have not known existed.

Free Narcan training begins at 6pm under the pavilion offered by Healthy Communities Partnership of Greater Franklin County, Inc.

Please join us for ‘A Prescription for Prevention’ on August 29, 2019, at the Hurst Conference Center.

The Fort Worth Safe Communities Coalition Drug Overdose and Poisoning Prevention Task Force is partnering with the event host, Challenge of Tarrant County, along with SMART Arlington and the DEA for this one-day event aligned with International Overdose Awareness Day, as a follow-up to the 2016 conference, ‘When the Prescription Becomes the Problem.’

The American Medical Association forecasts the opioid epidemic is far from over, estimating that overdose deaths will continue to rise over the next six years, reaching 82,000 annually by 2025. Opioid use disorder isn’t contained by a hospital, community health setting, treatment center, or even jail—and our interventions can’t be either. Join community leaders and local innovators on August 29th 2019 for a solution-driven summit meant to spark new ideas and new collaborations. This symposium will provide insights into what’s working on the local level, introduce successful models and policies, and identify potential barriers. Information will be presented via an outstanding lineup of speakers who will provide the latest research, real world knowledge, and practical solutions aimed at reducing opioid deaths in our community.

CEUs are provided for multiple professions, and lunch is included in the $30 registration fee.

To register, go to www.challengetc.org or https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-prescription-for-prevention-tarrant-countys-response-to-opioid-crisis-tickets-62362263208?utm-medium=discovery&utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&aff=escb&utm-source=cp&utm-term=listing.

This event is designed to remind churches not to lose their sense of urgency. Addiction is still a HUGE problem. We want to start a conversation by asking and answering questions like, “Do you know how to help” and ” What’s your role?”. Churches need to be educated and ready to do their part to save lives. We encourage church leaders and members of the church to join the conversation by joining this forum on August 27th or 29th. Get insight from those who have experienced addiction firsthand.
